About Us
Riverview Community Water System (RCWS) is a community owned water system founded by residents of Riverview, an unincorporated area located between Fort Mill proper and the Catawba River.
During the 1960’s Riverview residents decided they wanted water provided through a system, as opposed to their primary source at the time, which was well water. The residents banded together and approached several area municipalities to request water service. These requests, however, were denied for various reasons, the primary reason being the prohibitive cost of extending existing systems into the then remote area.
Undaunted, the residents applied for, and received a grant from the federal government to build their own water system. Thus, the Riverview Rural Community Water District was chartered by the State of South Carolina on December 5, 1967. Governed by a board of directors who are users of the system, RCWS has supplied water to the Riverview community of York County ever since. The original water system had about 60 households and has since grown to over 900 today.
